What a Week!

Image
https://fatmumslim.com.au/make-life-good-12-put-inspiring-quote-wall/ What a great week of training I’ve had this week. Everything that could have gone right, just seemed to go right. I performed well in every workout I completed this week and enjoyed every second of it. On Monday, I worked up to a 1RM of 52.5kg on my squat clean when my previous had been 45kg. Without even realising (and taking lots of rests in between lifts), I managed to squat clean my own bodyweight! On Tuesday, I did 3x10 reps of deadlifts and I managed to get through this at a reasonably challenging weight of 55kg. Focusing on my form, I made sure that every rep was as perfect as I could get it, extending the legs and leaning back into it. I also completed a crazy partner WOD which was so fun, pushing myself to go at 30kg throughout. (You can find this WOD on my WOD page) On Thursday, I completed the Martin Bell hero WOD which I had previously completed in April. The previous time I did 100 dea...

Eat the Rainbow, Taste the Rainbow

http://www.boltonmarkets.com/colliers-fruit-vegetables/ Sorry to get your hopes up but I’m not talking about eating packets of Skittles or M&Ms here. I’m talking about creating a more colourful diet that will allow you to increase your daily vitamin and mineral intake.   I have recently been reading ‘The Four Pillar Plan’ by the incredibly popular Dr Ranjan Chatterjee, after listening to him speak a lot of sense on the BBC Radio 5 Live podcast, The Girl Gains. In this book, Dr Chatterjee touches upon the importance of eating a variety of different fruit and vegetables, all of different colours, to enhance your meals. Different coloured foods have been proven to optimise the growth of more beneficial bacteria in your body, as well as maximising gut-bug diversity. Colourful fruit and veg contain phytonutrients which studies have proved have a remarkable impact on your health when you consume them. Phytonutrients help to improve heart health, fight cancer cells, red...

Member of the Month

Why do I love Crossfit so much? Crossfit has turned my world upside down. The love and support from everyone at Crossfit Consilium is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. You turn up, do some crazy, lung-burning workouts and high five each other at the end. Unlike any gym I’ve ever been to!  You can be really struggling and there’ll be someone there shouting your name to get you through it. O r...you’ll be absolutely bossing it and there’ll still be someone there telling you how well you’re doing! The feeling after finishing a workout is surreal, with everyone on that post-WOD buzz. I was voted as Member of the Month this month and the comments I received from everyone were so lovely.  Special shoutout to the best coaches that support each and every member at the box. The coaches I have the pleasure of training with every day are the main reason I have progressed so much over the past few months. Their patience, guidance and encouragement during every ...

https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/375346950185683631/         When I was in my final years of high school, I suffered from fainting episodes nearly every other week, which led to me being hospitalised and the placement of a heart monitor in the left side of my chest. Doctor appointment after doctor appointment eventually resulted in me being diagnosed with vasovagal syncope in 2012. During this period, I was passed from doctor to doctor to get their perspective and understanding on what the hell was going on. During one particular test, I suffered a cardiac arrest which scared both me and my family into desperately trying to find a treatment. I was prescribed beta blockers and my heart monitor data was frequently checked to gain an insight into how my heart/body was working. Since this long and difficult period of my life, I have been forced to stop playing rugby (a sport that I was progressing to a high level in) to focus on improving...

Progression (Not Perfection)

Image
Different people track their progress in different ways. Some people can get really obsessed with making short-term progress without thinking about the longer and more sustainable methods of development. Some people witness short-term change and become disinterested with progressing further.  Ultimately, you have to find a way of tracking your progression that suits you and your lifestyle. Comparing your development to others never works. Some people will always be in front of you and some people will always be behind you. The best example I can think of to explain this is when I am training, I watch how some girls can clean 45kg so easily. Yet when I go to lift 45kg, it is the heaviest thing I've ever held. Yet those girls are twice the size of me and have been weightlifting for much longer, so of course they are going to lift heavier than me. It is hard sometimes to not get caught up in the amount of progress everyone else is making without realising how far you've com...
