Back Blogging...
I've spent some time away from my blog over the past few months as I have just been struggling to find the time (and motivation) to sit down and write. Sometimes life gets in the way and it can often be easy to forget to do the things we love. As I write for a living, sometimes the last thing I want to do when I get some free time to myself is write. Yet, writing can be a great way of processing events, thoughts, worries and emotions. So I have reminded myself of how much I enjoy writing for pleasure, grabbed a notepad and pen and here I am.
So a lot has happened since August. I have been consistently training every week and still get excited every morning when I check to see what the workout of the day is. However, when that 6am alarm goes off and I see through blurry and sleepy eyes that the workout involves 100 burpees, I can’t say that excited is always the feeling!
Training has been going well but I've had a few weeks where I just haven't feel myself and haven't been performing as well in a workout as I thought I would. We all have those days where we just feel like crap. I became very run down and unmotivated to find the energy to even leave my house. After discussions with my family and friends, I decided to go to the doctors and after some blood tests, they found that I had extremely low vitamin D levels. You wouldn’t think that feeling fatigued, experiencing back and muscle pain and even slight depression could all be linked to low vitamin D. So I have been taking strong supplements every week to try and feel back to normal and my recent holiday to Dubai has also certainly helped.
It is amazing what a week of sunbathing, reading, eating great food and spending time with your best friend can do to your mood and health. I came back to Manchester feeling like a different person and I’ve noticed my performance in training and work dramatically improve. I am feeling on top of the world right now.
I have also recently celebrated my 23rd birthday with family and my friends from Crossfit. The friends I have met through the gym are one of a kind. It makes the gym such a nicer place to be because not only do you want to go to train but you want to have fun with your mates. Having a week away is so hard when you see all your friends having fun back home without you! And nights out are always the best because we can all stuff our faces, knowing we’ve earned that extra piece of garlic bread. It is safe to say the Christmas party is going to be one hell of a night.
So to get back on track, throughout the past two months I have achieved a lot, from running the Cardiff Half Marathon in under three hours to competing with my PIC in a worldwide Crossfit competition.
Events like a half marathon are as mentally challenging as they are physically hard and I felt it for weeks afterwards. But there is nothing like the ecstatic feeling you get once you cross that finish line or you finish that workout and all that pain and emotion feels like nothing compared to the feeling of knowing you are strong enough to get through the toughest of challenges. I’m hoping that this way of thinking will make my next challenge that bit easier.
On the 24th November, I will be taking on a half marathon row to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. There are some absolute heroes at the gym who are taking on the full marathon and I admire each and every one of them. However, my boyfriend and I have chosen to split the row, whilst still pushing ourselves to raise money for a great cause. If you would like to support us all on this massive challenge, please donate via the following link: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/georgia-simpson1993?fbclid=IwAR25fhXiaDoXfu3gdUqAg2ddr1VcjYQ4J239AQ06YXK5gFzq6zIS90qDc1Y&utm_campaign=pfp-share&utm_content=Georgia-Simpson1993&utm_medium=fundraisingpage&utm_source=Facebook&utm_term=BRXzenX8n
So to conclude, throughout the next few months I am determined to get through this half marathon row, master my kipping pull-ups and compete in my second Crossfit competition.
It’s going to be an exciting few months and I’m ready for it! Bring it on.
